FFXIII-2 First Week Sales Dissected
Any Final Fantasy release in Japan is a big one, but just how big was Final Fantasy XIII-2’s release last week for Square Enix?

The sequel to 2009’s Final Fantasy XIII has had comparatively weak sales compared to its predecessor. Sales for the PS3 version in Japan were about 525,000 and a meagre 10,000 on Xbox 360.
Final Fantasy XIII on the other hand sold over 1.5 million copies in it’s opening week. The linear affair disappointed many fans of ther series. This can be seen to be a prime cause for the decrease in interest for the sequel. It is also important to consider, there were far less PS3s on the market in Japan at this time in 2009.
XIII-2 may be a more open game, but the tarnished reputation of XIII has led to a lasting effect. The sales are large, let’s not deny that, but in comparison to the potential, they are weak. We wonder just how many more copies would be sold with the vast console ownership in 2011 if the game was named Final Fantasy XV?
