Fumito Ueda Leaves Sony?
Fumito Ueda, better known as the creator of The Last Guardian, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus is rumoured to have left Sony according to EuroGamer.
The Team Ico development studio is one of Sony’s internal studios and Ueda is said to have departed from the team and will work on The Last Guardian as a freelance developer. Sony have not yet issued a statement on the rumour other than the usual ‘we do not comment on rumour or speculation’ line.
The game has been in the dark since a TGS trailer in 2009. The game has been hit by numerous delays but after missing this year’s TGS, Sony reassured fans that the team were still ‘hard at work’ on the game.
Here’s what Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida (SCE Studios President) said about the development status:
“It’s been very difficult in terms of seeing the progress: not as fast as we’d been hoping for, and the team has been under big pressure.”
However, don’t fret because the game is still presumed to release and Ueda is still going to be working on the game. Although, this does bear the question as to what the future holds for Team Ico and subsequent titles.
