Dedicated Kinect for Windows Coming in 2012
Microsoft have briefly outlined plans to bring the Kinect camera peripheral specifically for PC’s using the Windows OS.

There have long been plans to incorporate the device with PC’s but Microsoft have now confirmed the specific hardware’s existence via their development blog. This version of the camera will slightly differ, utilising a shorter USB cable and a new mode called ‘Near Mode’. This will allow the camera to detect objects better at 40-50cm ranges, giving more practicality for desktop PC usage.
Microsoft have also recently launched an incentive for Kinect development, offering $20,000 to studios that wish to make Xbox 360 games using the camera. It seems the Kinect is being rightly pushed and expanded into other Microsoft specialist areas. We’ll have to wait until next year to see what the camera can do for PC users. Windows 8 perhaps? We’ll see…
