Vita Games Get Japanese Price Tags

As December 17th approaches, Japanese consumers get their first glimpse at the prices they will be paying for the PlayStation Vita games. The prices are not as bad as they may initially seem.

The price for hotly anticipated launch title, Uncharted: Golden Abyss comes in at ¥5980 from stores and ¥4900 from the PlayStation Store as revealed by Japanese magazine Famitsu.

Other launch titles like Hot Shots Golf 6 are cheaper, retailing at ¥4980 and ¥3980 for download. Ridge Racer is generously priced at ¥3980 from stores and a limited time offer download of ¥2980 detailed by Andriasang.

When you convert these into Western currencies it seems hideously expensive. ¥5980 is £50, $78 and €57. However, this is with the current conversion and not considering the general Japanese price. PSP games retail at the same price as this, making them far cheaper than the PS3 games on the market. What’s more exciting is how the digital copies of the games are cheaper than the physical media. This is definitely a right step for Sony and the gaming industry as a whole.
